Let’s dream about our Grand parc de l’Ouest

The Grand parc de l'Ouest is a concrete project aiming to create a Montréal 2030 that will have achieved its ecological transition with its entire population onboard. Having a surface area of more than 3,000 hectares (30 km²), the park has the potential to become Canada’s largest municipal park. It is an ambitious collective project that confirms the city’s will to protect natural environments and to preserve biodiversity. In the context of an ecological transition, the durability of our ecosystems contributes to Montréal’s increased resilience in facing climate change.

The park offers new points of contact with nature and includes all five nature parks of Montréal’s West Island: Anse-à-l'Orme, Bois-de-l'Île-Bizard, Parc agricole du Bois-de-la-Roche, Cap-Saint-Jacques and Rapides-du-Cheval-Blanc, in addition to various areas of interest located in boroughs or related municipalities.

Agglomeration council on March 24, 2022, approved the administrative agreement between the Minister of the Environment and the Fight against Climate Change and the city aimed at implementing the paysage humanisé projeté de L'Île-Bizard.

This administrative agreement between the Minister and the city lays the groundwork for the implementation of the orientations set out in the paysage humanisé projeté de L'Île-Bizard conservation plan aimed at protecting the biodiversity of this inhabited area, whose landscape and natural features have a distinct character.

The western portion of L’Île-Bizard is the first area in Québec to receive this status. The paysage humanisé projeté de L'Île-Bizard covers most of the L’île Bizard agricultural zone along with part of the Rivière des Prairies and the Lac des Deux Montagnes.
