Tight Cross-fit

As I walk to and from Plamondon station on the north side of Van Horne with my toddler for our commute, we have to cross Lemieux street. This seems like an unnecessarily hazardous intersection design. Vehicles turning left onto Lemieux do not have a protected left turn, and must negotiate priority against oncoming vehicle traffic on Van Horne, pedestrians crossing Lemieux, and backed-up traffic from the stripmall parking lot. They are also feeling pressure from vehicles behind them. Pedestrian visibility for these drivers is impaired by vehicles traveling west on Van Horne. This compounds to pedestrians being and feeling paradoxaly safer when crossing Lemieux against the red light, as southbound traffic on Lemieux is sparse.
