Opinions and Ideas
7 months agoCLOSED: The period for leaving an idea or opinion is over.Have your say on water issues and its public management and share your vision! Your contribution will provide food for thought on public water management for the development of Montréal’s next water strategy.
Share your impressions and ideas regarding key water challenges that the city and Montréal community should face, during the coming years. To guide your reflexions and propositions, here are the main questions that are submitted to you:
Note: For the full questions of the consultation, consult the document.
- Issue 1 – Responsible water usage: eliminate wastage of drinking water
What are the measures that must be put in place in order to eliminate wastage of water and encourage its responsible usage?
- Issue 2 – Protection of water resources: quality of wastewater discharges and quality of waterways
What are the means that should be advocated to increase the protection and quality of Montréal’s waterways, in particular St-Laurent river?
- Issue 3 – Climate change adaptation and resilience: water supply and stormwater management
In a perspective of resilient risk management of floods following heavy rains, among others, and of adaptation to climate change, what means should the city and the Montréal population take to protect themselves from climate hazards?
- Issue 4 – Intergenerational equity: collective efforts to maintain water infrastructures
What should the priorities be for the next decade in water management and what are the means to take to reduce water infrastructure maintenance deficit? Would you be willing to assume a greater share of the cost of water management in order to limit the impact on future generations?
Thank you for your participation!

Please only use non animal methods to test the effects on effluents. Unfortunately, a lot of testing for the effects on sewage effluent is done through “acute lethality testing” on fish, frogs, etc. Please switch from laboratory testing on animals to non animal methods, which are more accurate and much cheaper. https://www.change.org/p/stop-testing-sewer-water-on-laboratory-fish

Dear City of Montreal, I am disappointed that Montreal now allows rodenticide. Rodenticide near and in sewers poisons the fish. It can not be filtered out. Conventional Rat control uses cruel methods. The companies use glue traps, and snap traps, which, like legholds, can cause limb loss. They also use rodenticide, which kills slowly and kills many non target animals. https://m.facebook.com/RFOntario/?paipv=0&eav=AfbUBVKF7c1YhT9VJVluqvql7GZ6aUMN4HXsj08GSKGr148rCtpTybY7c3qkHVWijzs Killing animals does not solve the problem. Montreal’s feeding ban bylaw and Rouge National Park's bear proof bins are far more effective because they remove attractants. Please change your pest control subsidy to instead help home and business owners to remove attractants, and fix holes. A subsidy for a non lethal company could also be done, along with a humane contraception program. Please invest in non lethal solutions like bear proof bins (which also keep out rats) and public education. http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/2014/09/cruelty-free-pest-control-rats-and-mice/ https://www.peta.org/about-peta/faq/is-there-a-humane-way-to-get-rid-of-mice-and-rats/ https://m.facebook.com/groups/1117504815249691/permalink/1117515305248642/ https://www.peta.org/?s=Humane+pest+control https://antipestrepeller.com/discountsca/sales-page.php?adid=ggdisplay&cid=luccse5&affId=6ACC337B&c1=ca&c2=maxcon_smartdisplay&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8JyunKzz6wIVHggBCh3NGwocEAEYASAAEgIzTvD_BwE https://www.via-pet.com/pest-control/p/conntraceptop-forte-for-rats?fbclid=IwAR15EVdQ21_4kYqPuqkX-m2Hyd6y_YF7c9XIVOkO58deqJqkylRcyu1Djvs Sincerely, Nicole Corrado

Nano and micro plastics are killing off the biodiversity of the Fleuve St Laurent (Kaniatarowanénhne) and are also ending up in our bodies. The city must make their removal a top priority if our survival and well-being are their top priorities.
