Public participation process for development of the new Lachine waterfront park

In the summer of 2020, the Ville de Montréal announced the transformation of the Lachine Marina into a new waterfront park.

Located across from the Lachine waterfront and René-Lévesque Park, this new park is a major environmental remediation project and a concrete step in the City’s ecological transition. It is directly in line with Montréal's strategy to fight and adapt to climate change. With this new park, the City wishes to make accessible to the general public a new and emblematic waterfront destination that highlights the shoreline and Montréal’s distinctive character as an island.

An invitation to imagine the future waterfront park

In 2021, the city invited citizens to take part in a public participation process concerning the future park’s development and programming. The data collected will help to improve and refine the development proposal presented by the city and to create a project that meets the expectations of the entire community.

The various consultation activities were successful in reaching a diverse public in the borough of Lachine and its surrounding areas. They generated many ideas for developments, facilities and activities.

The city is now at work to make this major future waterfront park project a reality. The planning process continues with the launch of studies to better understand the site and validate the development choices. Some preparatory work will also be done starting in the fall of 2022.

Until then, the site remains open to the public.
